Tip of the Week: Become an Informed Patient!

August 11, 2008  Tip of the Week

August has been a busy month at both the practice and at home. My Tip of the Week section has suffered the past couple of weeks as a result. There is one section on my site that has not suffered however. It is the Patient Education Area. This new section of my website provides both text and video resources on five very important health topics. I encourage my patients, their families and worldwide visitors to read through articles of interest to educate themselves. I plan to continually improve the articles and post new topics. So, enjoy the new section of the website and check back here next week when I get the Tips of Week going again!

Tip of the Week: The Most Important Meal of the Day

July 21, 2008  Tip of the Week

The most important meal of the day is breakfast. Studies have shown that patients who lose weight and keep weight off, have a good wholesome breakfast.

What do I mean by a wholesome breakfast?

I don’t consider having a bagel, a muffin, or a doughnut, as a wholesome breakfast.

Tip of the Week: Start a Food Journal

July 14, 2008  Tip of the Week

In order to lose weight successfully, you need a food journal; the more comprehensive it is, and the more you document, the more you will be successful.

Recent studies have shown that if two groups of overweight people go through the same lifestyle intervention, the group that documents all their intake on a daily basis, and then has the information reviewed on a weekly basis, will end up losing more weight in the short-term, and will keep more weight off in the long-term.

So, the key message is a Food Journal, it is a must. It should be reviewed by your Obesity Coach weekly. The more comprehensive your food journal is, the more successful you will be.
